Posted:

Sayan Mandal and William Varcho along with their advisor Tamal Dey won the Best Paper award at the 22nd International Symposium on Vision, Modeling, and Visualization (VMV 2017) for their paper “Improving Image Classification Using Topological Persistence.” Mandal (right), a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, presented the paper at the conference. Along with Varcho, an undergraduate at OSU, Mandal worked under Prof. Dey on topological data analysis to improve on the state of the art techniques for image classification using machine learning. The link to the conference: http://vmv2017.cs.uni-bonn.de/
